Welcome to The Plug, where i like to give a review to anything tech and non-tech that i feel needs a shameless plug due to my liking.
This week time, i’d like to dive into a website I crossed by t0day that I felt needed a mention. This website makes the process of choosing programs easier regardless of what OS you happen to be running. Years ago i had an old dell laptop that dual-booted linux and windows xp, but I only got used to linux easier because i did my reserch on finding programs that performed the tasks of normal windows apps (i.e. office, email, media players). Sure it was a long process back then since i had to use multiple google searches, but not only did i find good equivalents, they where free too! Later on in college (still using google searching), i had to find alternative apps for all of my windows programs before i migrated to the Mac, but now present-day migrators have an easier way to search for just about any platform.
Presenting AlternativeTo, a site where you and a whole bunch of other users submit what applications need replacing and AltTo will give you suggestions on great alternatives. This is excellent for users migrating between OS’s, or just finding a better alternative to an app they dislike (its expensive, its slow, it just sucks). And the best thing? It’s community-maintained…so information’s likely to stay fresh and updated.
Yes I intentionally misspelled that last word, and there’s a reason why. I’m not going to go all “grammar police” on the blogsphere because no matter how many spell checkers we have on our word processors, email clients, and even mobile devices…spelling errors can and will by happen. And nine times out of ten, they happen by accident. Even i make a typo or two…it happens. Continue reading →
Welcome to the Babbler, where I condense and summarize what has happened in a period of time since my last post with brief and random thoughts usually because i haven’t had the time to blog in between. Some may make sense, some may not…but that’s the premise, all the babble that’s fit to blog! So off we go:
Wow, so it’s nearly been a month since i have written any entry with some substance (excluding my brief post proving my still-existence in the blogging world), but i must say that a lot has happened in September…i can’t say it’s been all good or all bad, but it made me realize how it’s just best that we try to prepare for everything.
